Rollercoaster is more like it, waton -- you're correct. Maybe, when I wrote that, I was going downhill, with no immediate thought I'd ever change direction.
a cool sense of tranquility overtakes my troubled spirit.. i emerge slowly from a deeply entrenched, lifelong nightmare and proceed into gentle reverie, into quiet wakefulness.
youthful ideals, embodied in vaporous form before me, are a black reminiscence, threatening to return as an untold want having neither name nor substance, only a niggling dig that skewers my soul.. i shut it out, shut out all the noise in the head: irrational thought, excessive thinking that leads to depression, to insanity.
yet, i am hopeful that devils of the past are blocked approach to me by a portcullis that guards both heart and mind.. i see but darkly my amorphous reflection and sense it is a phantom, not the real me.

the main spillway on oroville dam -- the tallest dam in the usa -- is damaged.
the emergency spillway, never used before in the 48 years the dam has operated, is eroding.. major confusion and panic occurred when the order went out sunday, late afternoon: this is not a drill!.
I perceive that you, jwleaks, are a man of infinite jest!
Truly, you are droll.

I see but darkly my amorphous reflection and sense it is a phantom, not the real me. From behind scudding clouds comes an awakened moon that illumes my way and shows inner turmoil in a light once unfamiliar to me. I suffered a turbulent youth and truly do welcome the slow and spiraling descent into older age; I am not afraid . . .
The black shadow of the walking dead, cast upon the asphalt by a gracious moon, shall be my companion.

You're correct, Richard Oliver. The two KHs in this area are small.
The churches in our community have large fellowship halls, ideal for feeding large groups (housing, I imagine, if need be).
The JW Assembly Hall is in Yuba City, which was evacuated.

Evacuation Order has been lifted, with the proviso residents may need to return to higher ground if the predicted 6 to 9 inches of rain overloads the reservoir.

Thanks, Landy, for putting up the link to the thread I posted earlier.
Your point is well made, Luther. Thank you for the question you posed re the KHs becoming havens for refugees; individual JW families are helping evacuees.
I don't know if any official WT action has been taken, since I am no longer in touch.

just been reminiscing about how c/a's have changed since we were young.
i remember when they started friday night in some rented hall , as well as the two weekend days.
saturday morning was a brief session then field ministry (which only a few performed ) and sunday sessions.. in the free time around the venue we just used to hang out socialising and eyeing up the girls.
Ken Richmond appeared at the opening of one of my fave films: BLACK NARCISSUS.

Black Narcissus is a coldly intellectual morality drama tinged with a cynicism which has the effect of casting, as it were, a gratuitous reflection upon those who, regardless of sect, have forsaken worldly pleasures out of sheer religious devotion. This is so because the two dominant characters are basically frustrated women who seek solace in religion after unhappy romances.

Good memories.
A civic auditorium was rented in our town on the California coast. Big trucks came into the parking lot, Friday afternoon, and food prep began at 3:00. We had a hot meal that evening. Cal Eckler was in charge.
Those were truly different times, when I still enjoined being "involved in a world of Theocratic activity." Yes, the expression that we used.

Thanks, Mr. Flipper, for the personal, first-hand comments. They're so much better than the copy and pasted stuff and links that I put up!
Best to you and Mrs. Flipper.
